These nerve fibers run up and down the body synapse with the effect or neurons that go into muscles, glands, skin, and viscera. Ganglia are the nerve centers present in both the sides of the spinal cord. These spinal nerves emerging on both the sides of the spinal cord run a series of ganglia. The spinal nerves emerge from the middle portions of the spinal cord. These two divisions never function together. Physiologists have discovered two divisions of the autonomic nervous system, i.e., sympathetic division and parasympathetic division. The synapse of system is situated outside of both the spinal column and central nervous system. The Autonomic Nervous System is controlled by the old brain, and is not under the functional control of the cortex. The nerve fibers of the Autonomic Nervous System are connected with the function of blood vessels, endocrine glands, heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, in and bladders etc. In other words, rest of the nervous system, other than the brain Autonomic Nervous system. The sensory (afferent) and motor (efferent) nerves connecting the surface of the body with the central nervous system constitute the peripheral nervous system. ![]() Again, in a well functioning ANS this trajectory has a definite parasympathetic bias. The visceral system of the Peripheral Nervous System is known as the Autonomic Nervous System. The trajectory thus described depicts the relative strength of the two systems. ![]() We use the analogy of a free body hanging in space, subject to two opposing forces ( in this case the sympathetic and the parasympathetic systems). The second, which is a short-term indicator, shows the interaction of the two systems on a beat-to-beat basis and is called the sympathovagal balance. People with well functioning ANS have percentages less than 20%. This is a percentage measure and since we are measuring dysfunction, the lower the percentage, the lower the dysfunction. This is defined as autonomic dysfunction and is a measure of how well the two systems work together. The first, which is a long-term indicator of the health of the ANS, is defined as the ability of the two systems to work together. We extract 2 important indices that enable the clinician to diagnose the proper functioning of the ANS. Our technology allows us to extract 2 separate activities in each increase or decrease of Heart Rate thus allowing us to quantify 4 possibilities as shown. The link between heart rate variability and its ANS regulator is a long-known scientific fact it however required a novel approach, which would de-facto extract the available information. Our technology allows non-invasive real-time monitoring of beat-to-beat changes, thus providing the measurement and clinical assessment of a system, which previously eluded direct observation. We extract the autonomic information from the variability of the R-R time-intervals present in the EKG signal. This new and proprietary paradigm allowed us to invent, to patent (in 2006) and implement a unique technology which thoroughly monitors the states of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and the associated changes. Varies the size of the pupil and lens' thicknessĪt DyAnsys, we have researched and solved an information extraction problem that combines medicine, computer engineering and mathematical physics.Adjusts resistance to airflow in and out of the lungs.Regulates the dilation of the blood vessels and consequently the blood pressure.Switches on the digestive system when eating. The Autonomic Nervous System is a very fundamental part of the human nervous system.
